On a holiday in Venice, an 81-year-old American woman had a serious accident which resulted in multiple bone fractures. She was admitted to a trauma department at a local hospital. Her husband contacted Medical Air Service’s repatriation service to ask us to organise urgent repatriation to Austin, Texas, for his wife.
Since communication with local medical staff was only possible in Italian, we provided the patient’s husband with an Italian account manager who was at his disposal around the clock to answer all his questions and request all necessary documentation.
By the next day, we had arranged for a Gulfstream G100 air ambulance to be ready at Venezia Tessera Airport in Italy. Beforehand, the patient and her husband were picked up by an ambulance boat, the Venetian equivalent of an ambulance, and transported to the airport the fastest way possible. From there, the patient was safely flown to Austin Bergstrom Airport in the USA under the supervision of highly qualified medical personnel. There, another medical team picked her up – this time with a ground ambulance – and took her to the hospital of her choice, where she was given further treatment.
