Visa and entry requirements for ambulance flights

Under some circumstances, we are able to organise ambulance flights at very short notice even if patients and family members have not been issued a visa. This is the case if a treatment in another country seems necessary, is urgent or cannot be performed at the current location. Contrary to what many of our foreign patients believe, the timing of the transport does not depend on how long a standard visa procedure usually takes. Please get in touch with us as quickly as you can: if you meet certain requirements, we can airlift patients to any country on the same day – without a valid visa – from most countries of the world. Generally, this requires authorisation by the local authorities, which we gladly request for you.

Visa and entry requirements for ambulance flightsWe are not, however, bringing this simplified procedure to your attention so you can circumvent regular visa requirements (applying for a visa in your own country and the resulting wait times) and enter the country of destination more quickly. If you do not meet the criteria described above, or if the airlift cannot be organised, the simplified procedure does not apply. In those cases, patient families usually have enough time to apply for the required visas through the local embassy or consulate of their country of destination.

In the past years, we unfortunately experienced many situations in which families of patients ultimately had to mourn the loss of those they held dear because of the misconception that they would have to wait several days for a valid visa. Often, the simple reason was that the care they received did not meet current medical standards and while waiting for a visa, they lost valuable time. A speedy transfer to a country with a great medical system, on the other hand, could have resulted in extensive recovery or at least a significant improvement of their condition. Specifically for these reasons, there is an option for patients and their family members to receive a visa – in exceptional cases – upon arrival of the ambulance flight in the country of destination.
