Under some circumstances, we are able to organise air ambulance flights at very short notice even if patients and family members do not have visas. We can do this if treatment in another country seems necessary, is urgent or cannot be carried out at the patient’s current location.
Please get in touch with us as soon as you can: if you meet certain requirements, we can airlift patients to any country on the same day – without a valid visa – from most countries. Generally, this requires authorisation by the local authorities, which we handle for you.
However, this is not a way to get into a country illegally. If you do not meet the criteria above, or if the flight cannot be organised, the fast-track procedure will not apply. In these cases, the patient and their family will have enough time to apply for the visas they require through the local embassy or consulate in their country of destination.
Unfortunately, we have experienced many situations in which families have lost loved ones because they believed they would have to wait several days for a visa. Often, people died because they received sub-standard care and their condition deteriorated while they waited for a visa. A speedy transfer to a country with a better medical system, on the other hand, could have resulted in the patient recovering or at least improving. There is an option for patients and family members to receive visas – in exceptional medical cases – when the ambulance flight arrives in the destination country.
